Founding Fathers unofficial solo version - rules
by Patanga Cordeiro, a humble lover of Thomas Jefferson and the "Sacred Fire" of America

Above: Thomas Jefferson, James Madison's lifelong friend, colleague and mentor - painting by Rembrandt Peale
I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man…
We relinquished the delights of domestic society, tranquility, and science, and committed ourselves to the ocean of revolution, to wear out the only life God has given us here in scenes the benefits of which will accrue only to those who follow us....
- Thomas Jefferson, from Light and Liberty
The essential qualities of Thomas Jefferson were clarity, luminosity and vastness. Clarity, luminosity and vastness — these the Declaration of Independence embodies. Jefferson was the most divinely talented man of his time. He covered quite a few fields in every walk of life, and he went a considerable distance in each. In his case mind, body, vital, heart — everything — went together. This moment he was a musician, this moment he was a sculptor, this moment he was a man of brain, this moment he was a physical, earthly labourer. God gave him capacities in many walks of life and he used them well. Just today I was reading a book about Jefferson. In the first sentence it speaks about him as "the happiest man." To become the happiest man is the most difficult thing on earth, and that he was.

Intro
These are fan-made solo rules for the great and inspiring game that Founding Fathers is! Based on second edition. I will still playtest it more, and will more than welcome any suggestions, playtests, iterations. I am sure that with time and thought a reader could make these rules much better!
Goal
By the end of the game both:
-have an equality in number of small and large states articles approved and
-have more antifederalist than federalist articles approved.
More philosophically speaking, it would mean to permanently establish legal grounds for nurturing and expandinge worldwide the "sacred fire" set by Jefferson's Declaration of Independence
Setup
Set up planners James Madison (the player), Alexander Hamilton, William Patterson and Roger Sherman (dummy players) in this order, each with 3 voting tokens. No cards are dealt. No articles start approved - they all compose the deck of articles to be voted yet.
Round order
Draw four cards - they will be used by all four delegates. Use only their back side - no special abilities are used. (Could be tested to see if possible)
Madison chooses one and plays it, using his voting token.
Then Hamilton does the same, then Patterson, and Sherman plays the remaining card.
After three rounds, the voting ends.
Modus operandifor planners Hamilton, Patterson and Sherman:
They have their alignments set as such:
Hamilton - federalist, large state
Patterson - federalist, small state
Sherman - antifederalist, small state
Order of priorities when acting:
First - they will vote in favour of their allegiance, if in play
For example, if a federalist/anti article is in discussion, Hamilton (a federalist) will always choose a card that allows him to vote for the federalist article, which could mean voting against an antifederalist article.).
If not possible:
Second - they will choose a card and play in the debating room. The card chosen will be that whichi would be most useful to his opposition in the voting hall.
Change from standard game: simply place a voting token on the corresponding track. Do not advancetokens, but addthem. Continuing the above example, if there is no card on the hand of three left after Madison that would allow Hamilton to vote for the federalists (either aye for a federalist or nay for an antifederalist), he will choose a card that will allow him to place a voting token on the debate track. He will choose the one that would help most his opposition if left available for use during that planner's turn. If not possible (happens when they do not have any more voting tokens to use):
Third - they will discard a card which would be the most useful his opposition in the voting hall and pass.
Example: Hamilton does not have voting tokens for the third round of a voting session, because it was held up in the last drafting comitee's meeting. His only possible action is to discard an antifederalist card, which will not allow Sherman to choose it in his turn. Then Patterson plays, and then Sherman plays.
In any case, when choosing a card to discard or play, if there are no distinctions to be made between two, the dummy players will always choose the rightmost card in your hand.
Major change: resolving debates and drafting comitee
When a round ends, move all voting tokens from the losing site in the voting hall to the drafting comitee. They will be voting according to their allegiance, if in play at the drafting comitee. If not in play, they will be counted as void.
On the debate track, the planner who has the most tokens on one track will get one vote, to be added to the drafting comitee's poll. Each dummy planner will add his vote according to his alignment, if in play at the drafting comitee. If not in play, they will be counted as void. Tied debate tracks give no votes and voting tokens return to their players for use in voting the next article.
The losing side leaves their voting tokens at the drafting comitee as usual.
End of game
Game ends when all articles have been voted.
Changes from standard game
Planner cards: Counts as a wildcard. When you draw one, it goes immediately to that planner, who can perform his action now, breaking the usual turn order if needed. Charles Pinckney's card simply counts as a wild card for anyone to use in that player's turn.
All cards: Use only their back side - no special abilities are used. (Could be tested to see if possible)
Setup: no articles start approved - they all compose the deck of articles to be voted yet. No cards are dealt.
Debate tokens are not used. Debates are counted as votes instead, as explaned in that section.
